The thought of death is a scary thing to think about.

However, thinking about what people may have thought about you while you were still alive could be even more devastating, so people should reflect and work on themselves in the present.

My son, Sammy, was such a kind, loving kid despite his rough beginnings as a beggar on the streets of an African refugee camp and then growing up in an orphanage where no one came to see him. When he came home to our family as a teenager, he had a contagious joy that spread to everyone in the room. And he was the kind of person who would give the shoes off his feet to someone if they asked for them - truly he was an angel on earth.

After Sammy passed away, I thought a lot about his legacy of love and kindness, and even my own legacy I would leave behind someday. When God calls me home, what will people remember about me? It's no fun to think about our own mortality, but reflecting on it may help us live with more purpose today.

Have you thought about the legacy you will leave behind? It might be a tangible legacy, or a legacy of skill, or a legacy of influence from the way you lived your life. Think about how you want to be remembered, what lessons you want to leave behind, and if you are living in such a way that your loved ones will recognize it after you're gone.

No one is promised a tomorrow, but everyone can start anew today. So reflect on it, work on it, and be prepared to leave your mark on your family and friends. Something to think about this week...
