A serious head-on collision between a car and a pickup truck claimed the life of a Depew woman on Wednesday morning.

First responders rushed to the scene at the intersection of French Road and Alys Drive around 11:30A.M., and found a severely damaged car with the engine completely detached. Police also found two women inside the vehicle, including a 73-year-old grandmother who died at the scene, and a woman in her twenties who is being treated at ECMC for injuries.

Witnesses say that the driver of the pickup truck was speeding down a residential street just before the crash occurred. The driver was transported to ECMC with serious injuries.

Neighbors told WIVB TV that their lights started to flicker, and when they walked outside they could smell rubber and see a ton of smoke.
