American Horror Story Season 7 isn’t quite under the same veil of secrecy as its predecessor, but has nonetheless sown confusion over its use of 2016 Election figures. First we wouldn’t see Trump and Clinton; then we would, and now Ryan Murphy finally clears up how.

Where initially Murphy suggested that they might cast a Trump for the election-based season, the Horror Story head subsequently corrected to say “You will not see [Donald] Trump and [Hillary] Clinton as characters on the show.” Yet another quote beyond that seemed to imply that the figures had “not yet” been cast, and now Murphy formally specifies to E! News that we’ll see Trump and Clinton on TV, but not in the context of the main story:

We don’t have actors playing them. You’ll see them on television. The first 10 minutes of the season, this season, takes place in a very eerie macabre way on election night and there’s something terrible that happens in the lives of our characters on election night as they’re watching it all go down. Which in itself was a horror story, so it’s like a horror story upon a horror story.

Elsewhere of Season 7, Billy Eichner and Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd have joined in mysterious roles, while only series staples Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters have confirmed their returns. Season 7 might also feature the return of several characters from American Horror Story: Freak Show, while a separate upcoming season was said to bring together Murder House and Coven characters.

Season 7 will begin shooting in May, but what other Horrors should we expect in the Election-themed story?
