The New York State DMV started Operation Prevent to prevent underage drinking and drinking and driving. You will be ticketed or arrested if you are caught with a Fake ID. Investigators from the State Liquor Authority, State Police, State Parks Police, and other law enforcement agencies are all on board

What happens if you get caught with a Fake ID in New York State?

Criminal possession of a fake ID is a violation of PL 170.25, criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree. This is a class D felony, punishable by up to 7 years in state prison.

This is not the first time that police are looking to do a crackdown on fake IDs being used to buy alcohol at concerts across New York State. They have been doing this for years. Last year there were over 500 tickets issued for having a fake ID during certain concerts across New York State. Your license can be suspended or even revoked if caught with a fake ID while buying alcohol.
