The Buffalo Sabres are preparing for the 2023 NHL Draft. The NHL off-season will be in full swing for everyone, once the Stanley Cup Final is over. That could be on Tuesday night if the Vegas Golden Knights win game 5 over the Florida Panthers.

Buffalo missed the playoffs but just two points. They have the talent to make the playoffs in 2024 and have the youth for sustained success for years to come. Adding a goalie to pair with Devon Levi and a veteran defenseman will be a focus in free agency and the trade market.

In terms of a trade, there are also players who could be traded off the Sabres roster. That includes veteran forward Victor Olofsson.

According to Lane Lysowski of The Buffalo News, Olofsson and his agent expect to be traded this summer.

Olofsson has one year remaining on his current contract, with a pretty sizable cap hit of $4.75 million. A team trading for the winger would need to take on that money.

Olofsson is a good goal scorer, but he's a one-trick pony kind of player.

He scored 28 goals in 75 games last season, but only 12 assists and isn't a strong defensive forward. He was a healthy scratch a handful of times in the last two seasons, despite back-to-back, 20-goal seasons.

It's evident that Olofsson doesn't fit this roster anymore. He's been a great story, as a low-round draft pick from Sweden who found his way to the NHL. The Sabres need to make more room for younger players and his style isn't exactly easy to find a place for as the team is constructed now.

It's time for the Sabres to move on from him.
