Buffalo Bills and Sabres owner Terry Pegula recently dissolved the teams' parent company: PSE (Pegula Sports and Entertainment). This officially separated the business offices of the Bills and Sabres, which will now be run independently but still under the eye of Terry Pegula. After all, he made himself president of both teams to oversee the day-to-day along with chief operating officer John Roth. Pegula says this will not affect any of the teams that were under PSE as they will continue to operate. He also said it eliminated redundancies in staffing. The teams laid off around 9 people with the dissolving of PSE.

Of course, that's exactly what anyone should expect them to say. Rumours from anonymous people inside the organization have swirled over the past few years that the team might be for sale, but those are just that: rumours. The team is not for sale to anyone's knowledge at this time.

Why Do People Think The Sabres Are For Sale?

Still, people speculate and have been for some time now. Again, speculation does not mean something is true. People come up with wild rumours all the time seemingly out of nowhere that are based solely on their opinions and hunches about things. What are those hunches and opinions though? The team's struggles on the ice have led to poor attendance and down profits. That's one reason fans speculate that the team might be for sale: Terry Pegula might be tired of losing money on it, and tired of having all of the work they have done fail. However, the team is on the upswing and expected to be a contender this year.

Another reason has to do with the business changes previously discussed. While Pegula's reasoning for separating the brands makes sense, many believe it also makes it a lot easier to sell the team if he wants to. Which, by all accounts, is true. Having the team part of a larger organization would not make it impossible to sell, but more complicated. It also might just be that this is how he prefers to run the teams vs. PSE and the way his wife, Kim, did it. Some have speculated that due to the tragic health emergency Terry's wife, Kim Pegula, suffered, perhaps Terry wants to move on from the team. It's no secret that Kim was a fixture and the driving force of PSE. Now that she is, unfortunately, unable to continue in her duties (and we hope she will be able to someday soon) perhaps that has changed Terry's perspective.

Again this is what we hear regularly from fans who have been speculating about a sale. If they are or do become available, however, the perfect owner may just be one of the most famous people in the world: Ryan Reynolds.

Actor Ryan Reynolds and the NHL

Reynolds is well known for playing iconic roles on the big screen like Deadpool, Van Wilder, and the voice of Pikachu to name a few. He also is already a sports team owner. He is a minority owner of the Edmonton Oilers. He also partners with "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" actor Rob McElhenney as owner of the Wrexham AFC football club in Wales. From Wrexham, they built a documentary show called "Welcome To Wrexham" which has gained a large following and made the football (soccer) club boom with popularity.

Recently, Reynolds and Chris Bratty (president of the Remington Group) tried to purchase the Ottawa Senators. However, that bid failed to go forward (More here: ESPN). Many Senators fans were excited about the potential of Reynolds owning the team, and he made several appearances at their games.
