She was born January 4, 1959, in nearby Niagara Falls, Canada, and spent a lot of time in the Western New York area, especially during the 80s when she was an inspiring actress and pop star. She suffered from kidney issues for years and passed away Monday, February 15, 2016.

Vanity, whose real name was Denise Katrina Matthews, passed away in a Fremont, CA hospital. She was only 57.

She is most know as the beautiful singer that was tutored by legendary musician, Prince. Vanity's big hit was “Nasty Girl” with Vanity 6 but, unfortunately the group broke-up in 1983 after only 3 years together. She went on to release two solo CDs, which included hits like “Pretty Mess” and “Under the Influence.”

Vanity also found success in the acting world, but missed out on a big chance to be in the movie Purple Rain due to the break-up of Vanity 6.
