A Western New York woman was arrested by New York State Police at the Walmart in Lockport for Larceny. NYSP Troopers arrested the woman after receiving a call to the Walmart Supercenter located on South Transit Road. Angela Fitzsimons, who was allegedly trying to exit the store with unpaid merchandise, was stopped by Walmart employees. She was arrested and charged with Petit Larceny. She was taken into custody by Troopers and taken to the State Police precinct in Lockport for processing. She was released with a ticket and will return to court in Lockport at a later date.

Estimates say that Walmart loses anywhere between $3 and $8 billion each year from 'shrink', which is what retail theft is called in the industry. Walmart doesn't release its official shrink losses. That's a lot of money to lose annually due to shoplifters.

Larceny is actually a very common crime in New York and WNY - it's the number one crime committed most in the 716. Wikipedia describes larceny as,

a crime involving the unlawful taking or theft of the personal property of another person or business.

In April 2022, the most recent data, there were 495 larcenies committed in Buffalo alone.
